He's clearly a massive upgrade on Lambert. So would be delighted if they got rid. But he's got a massive squad of mostly non-footballers, many of whom very obviously aren't going to be at Ipswich next term whatever happens. IIRC his style relies on a skillset most of those players don't possess. So Job One is probably look at what he does have in various several combinations and work out who if any out of them stays; the proper work for them is over the summer and then next term.
The real issue at that club was and is Evans. When their takeover didn't happen most of them seemed pretty "oh well" about it. Which frankly I find unbelievable. For sure it was (from what was public) a debt model, and a proper commercial debt model not pretend debt Evans knows he's never getting back as at present, and that presents a risk. But unless they roll the dice somehow they will be in League Two within five years.
While Marcus Evans continues to own Ipswich Town they will continue to diminish and fail. Obviously we're light years ahead of them now on any metric you like (granted, except "what they did fifty years ago" or whatever) but Peterborough and Luton are pulling away from them too. The Fourth Best Team In East Anglia might not be the lowest they will fall, but surely they realise they need to do something beyond "oh well let's hope we go up this season then we will be f**king loaded and can spend our way to success". Or maybe they don't, I dunno.
