Their perception of strength is based on the 'status' of the clubs involved

The likes of Leeds, Forest & Derby near the top = strong.
The likes of us, Watford,Brentford & Swansea = weak.

Don't see objectively why this year should be seen as weak. The 3 losing clubs from last seasons playoffs are all pretty strong again (Brentford, Swans, Cardiff) while all three relegated teams have been strong this year (whereas last year Huddersfield were a basket case)
