Yep, would defeat the purpose of getting promoted

Being able to strengthen as a club. The only winners would be:
1) Premier league clubs with no reasonable fear of relegation
2) Owners (you can't spend the money so you might as well pocket it)

In practice clubs like us would just save most of the money for future use so it would still have the effect of parachute payments in those subsequent seasons.
