Why isn't it possible to have a discussion about anything news topical or even slightly political on here without being called out as either a troll, frothing gammon, reactionary leftist or the new username of someone you disagreed with in the past?

I've never called anyone names, generally been perfectly polite and reasonable to other views on board (as per yesterday's discussion about the curfew lady), and always been open to polite conversation.

Christ, I even found myself defending Essex from what I thought was some unwarranted abuse/ bullying the other day. Sometimes the way people pile on him makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. I doubt he'll see the irony of that after all the s**t he gave me in the past but I try to be fair.

If you don't want to engage in a conversation thread, can't you just ignore it without feeling that the need to leave a pompous snide remark or name call?
