That's basically my frustration.
We've got a great side but aren't making the best of the talent there.
In terms of Stokes, woakes, moeen, bairstow, Buttler we have some of the strongest all rounders in world cricket which should make it a breeze to balance the side.
With the exception of Stokes, who we've bent over backwards to accommodate, the others have been lambasted and mismanaged for failing to make up for the failings of our batsmen.
Positions 5-8 should be no brainers the majority of the time.
Root has justified his sticking at 4. The lack of any kind of development plan for sorting 1-3, tinkering, bunging all rounders in there in an effort to get them all in, not really viewing those positions as a cohort for different players for different conditions.
We need specialist subcontinent batsmen - and I'd be tempted to look at some of the IPL regulars and coach for longer form.
