We went in January for two nights before getting married in Gretna

Proposed at the hotel [in the gardens out of sight] and married the same day.

It really is a beautiful place to visit and not tourist-like, like the Lake District. We stayed at the hotel below - stunning four course meal. Bamburgh Castle obviously is a must and a walk along the glorious coast line. Alnwick is nice; Berwick-Upon-Tweed was pretty deserted and nothing special. Was only a short visit but loved the place. England/U K has so many fantastic places to visit that a lot, sadly, don't experience as they opt for a holiday abroad.
