Here's what I don't understand about this kind of thing

Bitcoin is not anonymous. It's a design feature that all transactions are public and in theory known to all bitcoin users via the ledger. So if money sent to that bitcoin address is transferred somewhere else, it's there in the ledger. If it's converted to hard currency, it's there in the ledger. And hard currency is also trackable electronically until it's withdrawn, which gives a time, place and very often a photo/film of the person withdrawing it (a lot of ATMs have cameras in them). So even if someone sent money there, how does it help the recipient?
