another suggestion if you are looking at just straight employment.

Networking and contacts are the key.
If you are just trolling job sites you will get your application in with the 100 other people and will probably be auto- rejected by some algorithm.
Figure out the companies you want to work for and do some research on places like Linkedin of the people working there who make hiring decisions or can recommend you.
Thinking outside the box is often the way to go.
Some companies never even advertise jobs because they get enough people contacting them.

True story, in the 90s I worked at a place in Norwich on an industrial estate. This was during high unemployment.
In the three years I worked there only 5 people ever walked in the door and asked if we had any jobs going.....
We hired 3 of them!
