We also work in a lawyerly/science context

And funnily enough were early adopters of homeworking, but in the dozen or so years we've had it as an option it had started to go awry.

Our IT hadn't kept up with our needs (software in particular).

Culturally, new homeworkers were fine, but some longstanding ones had got detached/awol despite best efforts. This jolt has brought most people back to the fold.

Our senior managers were actually more proactive pushing homeworking even before it, which did mean we were mostly good to go when lockdown swung in.

We got around 600 people who weren't setup with homeworking up and running in about 7 knackering days in March.

It'll need tweaking and changing constantly and some people have really struggled to adapt (including my boss). But there's no way that we're going back to what we were doing before.

It's also been the kick up the arse that some of the attorneys needed to accept electronic communication (ridiculous that we were having to print out scads of stuff and scan in loads of stuff at both ends of the process).
