I agree the transfer plan had the long term in mind

But i don’t think Webber and Farke thought we would struggle to this extent in areas that were key to last season. In particular I’m thinking of goals completely drying up in midfield and stiepermann being ineffective. Vrancic and Leitner who were critical to our success dictating things from the middle, also haven’t really made the grade.

I’m not saying we should have made whole sale changes this summer, but another pacey winger would have helped given onel missing so much early on was tough, and we had no plan B. We needed a target man rather than Drmic. And we needed an effective number 10.

Signing Roberts and Amadou seemed sensible, but that didn’t work out.

I think another bit of naivety was that our style from last season would translate directly to the prem, where our players would have their technical advantage diminished.

It’s easy to judge with hindsight, of course!
