(or at least met at a match via an old friend off-of here).
They had a tradition of meeting up for the cup final that stretched back to their 70s school days and I'd been along for the ride since the early Wrath days. Come August it'll be the 4th final we raise a drink in his honour (whether we do that distanced from each other or not is unclear at present).
I got on with him so well from that very first half time drink under the Barclay, as we got chatting about music (as well as footy), a conversation that ran into the second half with neither of us in any hurry to go back out (f**k knows what game/score). He was my John Peel and he loved Glastonbury right off and would always be found at Strummerville*, being a massive Clash fan (I helped film & promote his son's band seven years ago now, a son he named after Strummer).
For years it was always my aim to experience Glasto just the once (I'm more of a low-key, loo-k'll festival kind of guy, so Harlequin Fayre for instance), but only under his wing and sadly I've missed that chance and it just wouldn't be the same without him, as he's flown straight to hell, boy.
He would've been proud of our boys today, the buggers showed some spirit once more.
