Not sure if anyone on here would know, but thought I'd give it a bash.
I'm looking to apply for Irish citizenship, so I can get hold of an Irish passport, based on my paternal Grandmother who was born in Ireland (she moved to UK when she was a child). She passed away a few years ago, and as far as I'm aware she never had an Irish passport. I can get a hold of her original Irish birth certificate and UK death certificate.
My question is as to whether my father needs to be Irish citizen for me to apply? On my initial research it appears not, but I read:
'You must also provide documents relating to the person you are basing your application on. This will be either your grandparent or parent.
In all cases you should send the Irish citizen’s:
* Original civil birth certificate
* Original marriage certificate or change of name document (if applicable)
* Certified photocopy of current state-issued identification (passport, drivers licence, national identity card) or certified copy of death certificate if they are deceased
If you are applying because your grandparent was born in Ireland, you must also include the documents listed above for your Irish citizen parent.'
My Father is not an Irish citizen and has absolutely no interest in becoming one, so I'm not sure if that scuppers my claim to it?
Anyone done this or have any advice on where to look for more information?
