and was station manager at Teesside. He was offered a job down here or Aberdeen, thankfully he chose here. He'd already worked down here and loved it and knew we would. Tbh it was inspired move because the North East was going through some tough times in the early 80s. It was a bit of a culture shock moving from a suburban town to the middle of nowhere but I found the others at school pretty welcoming and quite interested in someone new.
We occasionally went to watch Darlo play, at their old ground called Feethams. It was a proper old Victorian ground, you either entered via the cricket pitch entrance or down some alley ways (cobbled no less!) behind some terrace houses.
We only stood in the terraces, at half time you could walk to the other end.
