You're right - obviously they don't

Thing is they're not the ones making the rules here are they? They're idiots clustering like that. But they never set out rules saying people shouldn't do that and then flouted them when it suited them. That's the difference.

I do not hold Her Majesty's Press in any kind of high regard and nor are they innocent of hypocrisy many times over. Doesn't mean they can't question those in power though and doesn't mean they're wrong to call Cummings out.
