Which brings me back to the original point

If you have that mindset, you were probably not staying distanced or following the rules in the first place, which was happening a lot anyway (certainly in my experience).

I'm not condoning the current behaviour, but don't people need to think for themselves and stay safe regardless of someone else's conduct?
