He's in the public eye, involved in framing the very guidance he ignored and has shown a staggering lack of judgement. Bring people in a much higher risk category into direct contact with people who are infected.

Does neither he, nor his wife, have close friends or younger, less vulnerable family closer?

And what they were doing is nothing to do with safeguarding or prevention of harm.

The deeper question is why on earth you have such an interest in defending his actions?

By the way, that was rhetorical as I have no interest in your answer as your reasoning and judgement seem even more questionable.
