Perhaps unfairly but I worry less about safety of those concerned in a restart of football. Its a group of a predominantly low risk people with access to the best care and testing. this is not to dismiss the personal tragedy of the Italian footballer in an induced coma. I don't know but I would guess that people who work in public transport, supermarkets and other shops and essential services are at probably far greater risk.
I don't want football to restart without fans and wonder if the attraction will fade away very quickly. Being a fan is an emotional, irrational attachment even obsession but who can be incensed by the unfairness of another s**t decision by Tierney or Kavannagh et al amidst tens of thousands dying. The joy of winning and anticipation of the next game or participating in the inevitable blame game when we lose how can that have any relevance? How can a fans paranoia about the unfairness of what happens in football be sated when they can be silenced by the reply "I'll tell you whats unfair"
Will football matter without fans present. Even when you watch a cup game on TV with a ground three quarters empty it's dull and has a who cares vibe.
I don't know what will happen about money in the game. In 2008 when the financiers bet it all on red and it came black within a few years they were richer than ever whilst Joe public has to work longer to get a pension, wages were frozen for 10 years, public services cut to the bone. Does anyone really think that in the end the footballing elite won't be in an even stronger position and it will be austerity for the rest?
Stay safe.
