The key broadcasters would be broadly fine with canning games and making it up next year. They are not forcing the EPL to play these games.

There would be a finance hit though so it's the clubs not wanting to lose that TV income.

Which may be what you are saying, but I've seen suggestions elsewhere that its TV forcing this.
