we've got a pair of common newts

breeding in our little pond (I say pond, it's an 84 litre really useful box set into a grassy knoll with one side open for viewing, as I stupidly thought the kids would like to see what happens in ponds. Do they f**k. But it is pretty cool)

Had loads of newt-poles last year. Spent a small fortune on live daphnia feeding the buggers. Voracious things.
