OK... so on my Fenton foray's for the past few weeks I noticed a pair of blackbirds nesting on the ground near a stream. but in a very nettle strewn area.
Hmmmmm ... unusual I thought that could be a bit risky. But on my walks over the past couple of weeks they had built up a good nest and soon an egg appeared. Followed by another... then another... then 4 Eggs.
I tried to detour around the area, so as not to disturb the birds, but keeping an eye on how the nest was going.
My Fenton avoided the location as it was well overgrown with nettles and whippets and nettles don't mix as they are very short haired.
By now I was rooting for the blackbirds... a this past weekend I should have seen a possible hatch-ling appear :)
Saturday I went for my usual Fenton Wander and I slowly approached the nest area... but shock horror.. the nest was empty bar a few broken eggshell parts and some downy feathers... what a f**ker I thought... gutted ...
But then thats nature innit... just like this coronavirus.... Nature will have its way.
