it's nonsense to compare a football club with other businesses

our club is sitting on hundreds of millions of assets (players, stadium, value of club itself), some of which can be cashed in very easily. Getting the tax payer to subsidize a couple of million pounds is not addressing any kind of existential crisis.

Football clubs are fundamentally different from nearly all other businesses. Because the employees from the lowest rungs of the structure make up a tiny percentage of overall turnover. Claiming that without furloughing them they would have to be laid off is disingenuous nonsense, given the many other ways the club could address a financial shortfall.
