First of all, sorry for your loss

When my dad died (and my brother before him) I was surprised by how helpful companies that I wouldn't have expected anything from were, and how hopeless some others were. Norfolk County Council - didn't cover themselves in glory. Sky TV - delightful. HMRC - a pleasure! Banks I dealt with directly, but of course that was because I could walk into the various branches - I suspect that right now, call centres are down to a bare minimum staff. I would resort to that old-fashioned device of letter writing and some emails to speed up the process (if I remember correctly, amounts up to a certain sum can be withdrawn directly by any of the executors).
Having said that, while he was still alive, Barclays had made one of his accounts dormant and it took a lot of effort to be able to reinstate it, aided somewhat by a concerted social media campaign by my husband.
