my bloke down the pub view is simple.

say bt/sky/foreign tv companies declare they want some money back i would say fine, here it is.

Then when it comes time to the new contract i would stick the same amount plus interest on top of the newly already massively improved tv contract with a take it or leave it attitude. If they turned it down your amazons and your netflixes and your disneys bbc/itv/c4 etc would jump at it.

Or what is also possible is that clubs that are wanting to sell the streaming/broadcasting rights to their matches on a ppv basis and will use the threat of this happening in future to negotiate a way out of the current mess.
