Not all facemasks are created equal, and you need the proper kit to provide a degree of protection. No mask/PPE offers total protection which is why you need protocols for handling them, cleaning them and so on. If the Great British Public struggles with "stay at home", how will they cope with a multi-step disinfection protocol?
Bottom line, if you can get the right mask and use it properly, you're probably the kind of person who is already taking the best measures you can in terms of distancing, cleaning, managing surfaces and so on.
So I'm not convinced, honestly.
