why can't people make their own minds up and not wait for the govt to do it?

surely by now people must be able to determine if their work is "essential" and then weigh up carrying on in non-essential jobs against the impact of potentially occupying an ITU bed and the resultant effect on NHS resources or even infecting all their family/fellow citizens and then they all end up occupying ITU beds.

let's hope this isn't too late
