Here’s my thinking,purely for my own situation.

I’m keeping APjnr off fist year of 6th form today. He’s got a tiny bit of a cold but mainly nothing wrong. He hasn’t got any exams on the go. With him being off it lessens the numbers in his school,some others are also doing the same. It’s absolutely no burden to us as he is old enough to be at home alone. It keeps him away from others. Now my wife is a primary school teacher with many members of staff calling in ill and classes being amalgamated on top of the usual short staffed nature of the system and many highly demanding pupils with special requirements. We have 3 elderly parents, all mid 80s with health vulnerabilities,we will do doorstep food deliveries for them.
What i can’t understand is that the government hasn’t given guidelines to parents about school attendance. We are lucky in that we can keep him off, I genuinely think this lessens the load for the school. My daughter is at uni and all of her lessons are being FaceTimed or whatever it is.
Don’t forget, teachers aren’t immune to this virus and although I believe that kids have been so far been showing few symptoms ,they are still vectors for it.
What do you teachers on here feel is the best solution regarding school closures and voluntary absenteeism?
