I have a number of quite senior medical friends

and by and large, they've been broadly supportive of the approach taken. the problem with the alternative is the v obvious one that a lockdown, if extended beyond 2/3 weeks (and I do see that a short lockdown might be a good idea to alleviate overwhelming pressure - I think we'll see that quite soon) will lead to an economic collapse that will have huge consequences, including physical/mental.
