let's take you as an example. You may or may not have had it / have it.
The herd immunity theory, which is not just about hospitals but also keeping the country going and allowing those who have had it and recovered to go back to work without fear of getting it or spreading it.
If you were tested, you'd know for sure if you were safe to go out and behave normally once recovered, go to work and help old or vulnerable people etc.
But you don't know. You might just have had a cold, or a mild flu. So what are you supposed to do? The only safe thing to do is to assume you *haven't* had it.
Herd immunity theory MUST therefore be accompanied by mass testing.
Now I'm no epidemiologist, but tat's just simple logic a five-year-old could understand.
