it's far from ridiculous, this is largely what china has done

and they'd curtailed it's spread. Govt policy to do almost nothing will probably result in widespread death and the economy will be totally ravaged anyway. In addition to the fact that it could easily become a seasonal disease taking a large death toll every year.
