You're mixing symptoms with cause

The infection rates and death rates of civid are higher than seasonal flu. Fewer people have died so far, but only because fewer people have been infected.

Your 600 average for flu could be 12000 for covid if same numbers were infected (x20 more deadly). But covid is also looking like its at least twice as infectious so more people will get it. That 12,000 becomes many tens of thousands.

And on top of that, our ICU units would be utterly swamped so death rates would be higher and more people will be dying of otherwise treatable non-covid cases due to lack of ICU space and medical staff (who are also coming down with it in droves elsewhere).

Its not just 'a cold'.
