Say the target is top 17. If we finish 18th this season to a last minute VAR goal that snatches away the point we need, then we finish 3rd next season on goal difference then lose in p/o final, have Webber and Farke 'failed' such that they should be sacked?

Because that's what persistent 'failure' would suggest ought to happen.

Top 26 as a medium to long term goal is, IMO, ambitious for a club of our financial clout.
