I have just done exactly that

I'm quite reliant on the broadband and they're a world better round here than the BT offerings. So really I was just seeing if they'd knock some money off.

Bizarrely the automated phone system offered me a few quid off without me even speaking to anyone or asking (really... I'm not joking)

I got patched through to their retention team and they wiped fifteen quid a month off my bill, upped my broadband speed, set me up with a new WiFi hub and threw in sky sports (standard def) for a year free of charge.

Really pleased. I'd never got too far haggling with them before, but this time it worked. The operator was a Middlesbrough fan. We talked footy... Maybe that helped?
