From the Pink Un...

'Mr Worsley defended Worthington's transactions in the transfer market.

?When you haven't got the money to go in for players who are worth ?2m or ?3m you have to go journeymen who you hope will come off,? he said. ?At the moment they are not coming off.'

No you don't Mr Worsley, you can sign young ambitious players from the lower leagues, as the likes of Preston have done.

I doubt you'll find many Norwich/Preston fans (or sane managers for that matter) who would have preferred to spend ?550k on Andy Hughes as opposed to the same amount on the combined talents of Matt Hill, Dave Nugent, Brian Stock and Simon Whaley.

Two of those players have been a success, and Nugent has done so well that he will probably be sold for ?2-3m. Even if the other two don't do well, the club will still be in a much better position than if they had signed a journeyman for the same money.

Why not get back to the days of signing good players from League 1 and 2 teams (a la Drury and Leon)?
