What exactly is Nigel Worthington doing to merit the support of the board? And is it working? Well let's ask, er, Nigel Worthington what he thinks. Back at the start of November he was fairly scathing about the team:

and nearly four months later at the end of February he wasn't any more impressed:

Well he certainly hasn't been training them in what I consider to be the basic art of passing "...we gave the ball away far too often and we were second best on too many occasions. We were less than average, to be fair. We didn't pass the ball..." Oh dear! Perhaps we should try practising passing at Colney? Just a suggestion.
And of course one of the big problems back in November was that the players simply didn't try hard enough according to Mr Worthington: "The one thing I hold as a manager and over the large part of my time at the football club - teams have gone out and been honest with endeavour, with ability, and I have two performances in the last two weeks out of four games where we have lacked heart, we have been dishonest and simply not good enough.? Since he was so cross about it I would have thought he would have done something about it. Apparently not. After our last away game Mr Worthington said "...we didn't work hard enough and it was hugely disappointing and frustrating....between Palace doing well and us not turning up it was one-way traffic out there.? Oh dear! Perhaps we should try motivating the players? Just a suggestion.
So Mr Worthington has helpfully told us what he HASN'T been doing - he hasn't been training the players (or if he has he has by his own account made a piss-poor job of it) and he hasn't been motivating the players (or if he has he has by his own account made a piss-poor job of that as well), so what has he been up to? Well - he has been engaging in a quite extraordinary amount of transfer dealing. Since the debacle at Wolves the following have LEFT the club:
Halliday
Wright
Davenport
Jarrett
Jarrett (again!)
Brennan
Ashton
and the following have joined the club
Wright
Etuhu
Robinson
Earnshaw
Rehman
Johannson
That's 13 transfer deals in less than 4 months! And no obvious improvement in the team's performances according to Mr Worthington. Oh dear! Still there must be a lot of happy player's agents out there. So it's no wonder the fans are upset. But apparently the board are happy, which I find odd to say the least. They are always telling us that we have "few resources" so I would have thought that they would have been disappointed that, for example, ?438,000 had been blown on payments to agents in 6 months. Apparently not.
So, in the end, what is it that "undermines" the team? Is it fans expressing their frustration, or is it a manager who, by his own account, can't or won't train the players in the basics of football, who, by his own account, can't or won't motivate the players, and who has engaged in huge amounts of transfer activity which, by his own account, has not improved the performances on the pitch. I know what I think, but so long as I am stupid enough to keep on paying my money and turning up at Carrow Road no-one will take any notice of what I say. That's what "togetherness" is all about.
