I still think that until reletively recently the % of black players was quite low

despite being massively up from say the 70's and 80%.

The current generation though will be completely different and is bound to translate to more black or ethnic minority coaches even if still a lower number than you might expect. But most managers and coaches don't really come through to the top level until a few years after they finish playing.

But my main point is that I think if we want to look at why black footballers are not going into coaching/management then I do not think discrimination is the only or even the main reason. I just think clubs will appoint anyone who they think will bring them success. Many of the black players retiring are now very wealthy individuals with other interests outside football. I would think the % of ex players becoming managers is pretty low now full stop but, for example, why is it that Lampard and Gerrard have gone into management whilst the likes of Ferdinand, Jenas, David James etc haven't. These are intelligent guys who would have been given opportunities if they had wanted them,
