compare to 1992

After people have told us how good the current squad is and Nigel wanted us to judge him on the squad he built, and the evening news compared the current team to that 5 years ago I had a thought. Why not compare today?s team with that of 1992.

So here are my thoughts, who would get in your team?

Goalie ? Gunn/Green ? Winner Gunn, definitely on current form, would have been harder choice 2 years ago

Left Back ? Bowen- Drury, Winner has to be the best left back ever in Bowen, unfortunate for Drury as if Bowen hadn?t been about he would have won

Right Back ? Culverhouse ? Colin/Fleming ? not a difficult choice here to choose Culverhouse, one of best ever-right backs

Centre Half ? Ian Butterworth/ Fleming, on overall balance has to be Butterworth, not the greatest defender butt certainly better than Fleming

Centre Half Sutton- Doherty, Sutton WAS a defender at the time, again easy choice for Sutton

Left Wing ? Hucks- Ullathorne. ? A win for the new boy here,

Right Wing - Fox- Hughes or Henderson or Charlton- again the old boy wins by a mile, I loved Ruel, he was so quick, made Hucks look slow

Midfield ? Crook ? Safri if only for never being tired Crook wins, but on pure passing skill and vision and his link up with Bowen Crook easily wins this one

Midfield ? Goss ? Ethuto/Robinson ? The powerside of midfield, Goss would win even if you only included his goals against Bayern Munich. Just watch the 100 greatest goals video ? Goss has 5 in there. Probably easiest decision of the lot! Win to Goss

Striker ? Fleck ? Earnshaw, maybe an unfair competition to pit a great Canary legend against a new boy but I just loved watching Flecky, he played for the love of football

Striker ? Beckford/ Mckenzie or Thorne Beckford wins against Thorne but Mckenzie beats Beckford.

What a joy to behold an attacking team with Crook?s passing, Goss?s running, Fox & Hucks on the wings and Fleck and McKenzie banging in the goals!!
