Oh you! I honestly paused before I typed 'deffo' and thought shall I type the

traditional spelling 'defo' - one 'f' (I guess as there's just one 'f' in definitely) but I thought no, I prefer to spell it 'deffo'. My reasons for this were:

1. It's just a pretend word anyway so I can choose to spell it how I like.

2. I teach the rule in class that double consonants keep the vowel short sounding and one consonant makes a long vowel sound (usually) e.g. Writing vs written. So in my mind, 'defo' sounds more like 'deefo'

3. I thought, honestly, who would make a fuss about that?
