There is no such thing as an established premiership team, outside the top six

It used to be top six plus Stoke, but then Stoke took their turn too. The rest of us, to a greater or lesser extent, are yo-yo clubs who will inevitably spend time in the Championship from time to time.

What, then is a good season? In the Prem: I guess it has to be survival, which can be pretty dreich. But in the Champs, it's definitely a season which ends in promotion.

That's why it's so important: not for the destination, which we all know is a bit rubbish in practice, at least for fans; but for the wonderful journey and its culmination.
