The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is an independent agency of

the United States Federal Government responsible for the civilian space program, as well as aeronautics and aerospace research.

Far be it for me to challenge anything that you or Tombs are saying, but it really does sound like their remit is to do with space travel rather than collecting data about best NCFC fanon planet Earth. Still I'm happy to be proved wrong.
