I have basically reconciled myself to being a yo-yo club. The key points are (a) we just can’t afford to compete through conventional warfare and (b) there are infinite examples of spending big and failing big, from Ricky to Finidi to Fulham. So we’ve got to try special ops and if we fail, we fail.

PS I still want to buy Dan James and reserve my right to loan like a spoilt brat about lack of ambition if we don’t
