Clear antipathy between the manager and a vocal chunk of the fanbase.
That they failed to appoint wisely, and that they have done far worse, after he left doesn't really change the fact that both manager and club had reached the end of the road together.
We had this with Houghton to a lesser degree, and faced the same incredulity from outside the club as we seem to be giving Ipswich.
I guess some of this boils down to whether you only watch football to see positive results, or to enjoy watching football at the same time.
(Where I raise an eyebrow at Ipswich at the moment is whether their fans are simply so relieved to have gotten rid of McCarthy and Hurst that they letting hearts rule heads in terms of the faith they are placing in Lambert. I can't see what he has done there to give them such optimism. Much of the positive off-pitch stuff they are raving about is simply what a good sporting director could have done.)
