when those twitter 'fans' come out and say things like "Can't believe all the plastics slating Todd (or whomever)..." when, to your point Jim, there have been nothing of the sort.

It's an odd decision to make isn't it? Desperate to protect - and be seen to protect - a player against non-existent abuse that they themselves perpetuate by drawing attention to it. It's almost a kind of gaslighting.
