I was at the other semi final as I was a student in Birmingham and hosted some friends from home. We were drinking with Everton fans in a pub in Harborne that evening who knew people at Hillsborough and as it was in the days before mobile phones they were not sure what had happened to them. However earlier, as the news came to us during the game that the other game had been abandoned, all the worst rumours were being passed around. To (mis)quote the Go-Between, “the past is a different country, they do things differently there”.
