All that happens is there are always tickets available so people feel more able to pick and choose so you probably get less season ticket sales (having a waiting list is a great incentive for people to renew) and negligible additional income relative to the extra cost
The fact is - thanks to the size of Prem TV money - if you are in the Prem the extra income that expansion brings in makes no material difference to your chances whatsoever, and if you get relegated it is just an empty white elephant because in the second tier we simply don't need a bigger stadium than we have now (how many games have actually sold out, even though this season has been pretty much as good as is possible?)
