The first step is massive though.

It’s not quite as simple as “just walk off” from his point of view in the middle of the match on the pitch.

It might well be that simple afterwards, but when you’re in it, thinking (or not) that you’d forfeit the match, cause ructions in the stands, whatever else, it’s not straightforward and clear.
