We had Gemma as named driver on Mrs KC’s policy as a named driver cost around £900 for the year. Car is a 2010 Yaris, we are post code HA3. Was advised she could build up a no claims using this but the year after £1200+, this was with Direct Line.
Last year we shopped around and for insurance as named driver for £700, Gemma uses the car around 25% of the time I would say, but there is no-limit on how much she could drive – I called the company to check as she was taking the car to where her boyfriend lived.
Next year she may insure herself with Mrs KC and/or me as a named driver – this reduces premium quite a bit. Looking on a comparison site this is around £800 for the Yaris.
I think it’s quite a bit cheaper for girls than boys.
One thing not to make a mistake is the learner driver policy which we got for Gemma when she was driving the car on a provisional with one of us as passenger. As soon as she passed this policy was useless as she wanted to go out by herself which was not allowed.
Post code is a huge cost, guy who sits opposite was investigating for his 17 year old son, they live around 10 miles from Stanstead, got insurance quote for £900 and when they updated to with our postcode it jumped up to £2300.
Good luck with it all.
