There’s a really fab piece about Bert Trautmann in the Times

Can’t link to it because *paywall* but it’s really worth getting the paper for. It’s by Rick Broadbent, reviewing a film about Bert called The Keeper.

I knew he was a German and broke his neck in an FA Cup final. That was it. I didn’t know that he was a committed Nazi, a volunteer in the German army, decorated with the Iron Cross for valour on the eastern front. I didn’t know that 20,000 people signed a petition protesting when he signed for Man City or that the tide turned for him when an influential local rabbi wrote an open letter to the press saying he should be given a chance.

It’s a hell of a story! Worth giving your shekel to Jr Murdoch.
