I know what you mean but there is a strong indie scene as well.

I've got 2 kids and one is very much into indie bands (if a little gentle) and the other into stuff like Drake, Post Malone,Childish Gambino and such like.
There's lots of different music out there but I'm inclined to agree that a lot of airplay is quite R&B based and pretty s**t.
