so, point 3 was to try & get underneath why Labour has come across as fractured. The vast majority of members are pro-remain, to keep the membership happy Corbyn could just have done as the Lib Dem’s did. A lot of Labour voters are in leave seats - so at that disastrous election May called you had the frankly bonkers outcome that whilst Mansfield (an area I know well) and a strongly leave area voted in a Tory for the first time in many decades..... whereas Canterbury, strongly remain, voted in a Labour MP for the first time in many decades, keeping the party united with such divergence would be a challenge for far greater leaders than Corbyn. Many things he can be criticised for, but the Marxist/comrade Corbyn rhetoric frankly diminished the power of your argument & detracted from it - especially when Labours election manifesto outlined policies that by historical & wider european standards was relatively tame and mainstream.
point 4. No one has denied Leave won the popular vote, I didn’t even seriously try & suggest people were duped or the election was rigged. I simply pointed out that an only slightly smaller number voted to remain in EU. Forget all the hyperbole about where the vote stood in historical terms - the fact is that 48% of that massive turnout voted to remain. A massive vote it may have been, a landslide it most certainly wasn’t.
As for a General Election, perhaps we can agree that Brexit is just one issue affecting the country and one that has had far too much focus. It isn’t a magic elixir that will end austerity, lead to the kind of investment that public services require. And if you believe that Brexit has just become the escape goat upon which to pin all the ills that actually result from Government policies, why wouldn’t you campaign for a General Election to change the Government? Sounds to me like an exercise in taking back control :-) ..... and to equate that with the uber establishment nutters in the ERG makes good rhetoric but as another example of an opinion rather than fact.
Enjoy your evening 😎
