The best deployment of "frisson" I ever heard

was in some TV show about Catholicism and differences in practice between it and Anglicanism. There was this terribly posh bloke on, the kind who pronounces Mass "Marse", and he said, well one difference is that, if you're a Catholic, you know the difference between venial and mortal sin. For example, any Christian knows adultery is wrong: but we Catholics know it's the worst kind of wrong, a mortal sin implying eternal damnation: hellfire forever.

Which adds a certain frisson to the whole thing.
